The Football Premiership - Spurs off the Bottom... at last

Another week, another win for Tottenham in this great reversal of fortune.

New manager, Harry Redknapp is the man !!!

Manchester City 1 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur

That will do nicely !!!

Brazilian Robinho scored first for City in the 16th minute, finding the net from point-blank range. That thankfully was the end of their tally as resurgent Tottenham were to come back strongly.

Manchester City deservedly had Gelson Fernandes sent off for a clumsy challenge and the home side were down to just 10 men. It was now a very different game.

A rejuventated Darren Bent scored a brilliant individual goal in the 30th and from here the game was Tottenham's to be won.

Bent added a second goal in the 64th and the victory was sealed when City had yet another man sent off. Tottenham had Assou-Ekoto sent off in the 87th, but by that the time the game was already won. 2-1 to Tottenham and 3 much needed points.

Spurs finally climb out the relegation zone to 17th. It looks as if they will finish the season about mid-table. One wishes Harry Redknapp had turned up a lot earlier. Under Redknapp's command Tottenham Hotspur are a completely different animal.

Tottenham Hotspur - Crisis? What Crisis ???

It's hard to believe that Tottenham Hotspur are the same bunch of players of just a few weeks ago. Such is the transformation in an incredibly short space of time. The team were struggling for goals, letting in plenty and morale was completely down the proverbial toilet. But now look at them...

Tottenham Hotspur 4 - 0 Dinamo Zagreb

The amazing turnaround continues as Dinamo Zagreb were thumped 4 - 0 in the UEFA Cup at White Hart Lane.

This game was all out about Spurs and if it had been a boxing match, the referee surely would have stopped the fight.

Darren Bent played as the lone striker and scored a magnificent hatrick with goals in the 30th, 33th and 70th minute.

The best goal of the evening came in the 59th minute. A cracking long range shot from Tom Huddlestone that had to be 25 yards out at least.

Tottenham are now playing with added style, confidence and determination. Results in the Premiership, else where, kept the team bottom this week, but it would be a very brave (of foolhardy) individual to bet on them being there come the end of the season.

The Premiership 2008 - The Tottenham Revival Continues

All Hail Harry Redknapp !!!

Few would care to remember ex-manager Juande Ramos as Tottenham Hotspur finally show what they're made of in this epic turn of fortunes. Before Saturday's fixtures, unbeaten Liverpool were placed top of the table.

Tottenham 2 - 1 Liverpool

Since Harry's appointment, Spurs have earned 7 points out of a possible 9. Before his arrived, it was 2 points from a possible 24. The form comparison can perhaps be measured in light years.

The game was played at White Hart Lane and league leaders, Liverpool, started as you would expect. Ex Tottenham striker, Robbie Keane, created a chance in the 4th minute and Dirk Kuyt converted the chance to give the visitors a very early lead. Goalkeeper Gomez, was again at fault and maybe should have done better. Redknapp will be looking to replace him very quickly. Gomez made several other gaffs before the game was over.

Liverpool were appearing to have the better of the play, but Spurs were hanging in. Then it happened. A Gift. Jamie Carragher stuck the ball into his own net in the 68th.

Tottenham now saw a chance and were coming forward with vigor. As the time ticked down it looked as if Spurs would earn a well-deserved point.

Bentley drove a vicious shot toward goal in the 89th. Goalkeeper Raina turned it away only for Darren Bent to find Pavylychenko who duly scored giving Tottenham an amazing final score of 2-1.

Spurs now move off the bottom spot in the League and go up 2 places.

The Premiership - Arsenal 4 - 4 Tottenham, Redknapp begins

What a turnaround for Tottenham Hotspur! They were just 2 points from 7 premiership games. Juande Ramos was replaced by Harry Redknapp from Portsmouth and then it was 4 points from the next two games, a points increase of 200%.

Arsenal 4 - 4 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham had been struggling to score goals ever since the season began and to score 4 away to London rivals and Title contenders Arsenal, will be a major confidence booster. In a game that was laden with defensive mistakes from both sides, the manner in which Spurs forced the draw spells good omens for the remainder of the season.

In a game played at fantastic pace, Arsenal's Theo Walcott had an early chance in the 10th minute, but his left footed shot passed just wide of the post from 17 yards out.

Then it happened. An absolute Wonder Goal. David Bently shot from 40 yards out with a looping volley that flew into the back of the net. First blood to Tottenham and Harry was jumping off the bench in celebration. It truly was an awesome goal.

Spurs Goalkeeper, Gomez, looked suspect the whole game and surely he will be replaced under the new Redknapp era. He was particularly weak at corners as time and time again he would rush out of goal, with zero chance of getting the ball. This lead to Arsenal equalizing 8 minutes before half time through Mikael Silvestre.

Gallas added a second just after half time and when Adebayor stuck in a third in the 64th for Arsenal, the game looked over... or at least it should have been.

Arsenal failed to close down the game. Darren Bent came on for Pavlyuchenko in the 65th minute and scored just 2 minutes later following an error by gunners goalkeeper Alumunia. 3-2.

Awful defending from Spurs again gifted Adebayor who found Van Persie who scored with a powerful strike in the 68th. 4-2.

From here, Arsenal should have just played the clock down, passed it around until the game was over, but they didn't. Maybe it was cockiness or maybe immaturity from a relatively young side, but they were made to pay. Late goals from Jenas in the 89th, courtesy of a clichy slip and the equalizer in injury time from Aaron Lennon who pounced on the rebound after Modric hit the post from 25 yards out.

4-4 it ended.

One of the most entertaining matches of the season so far. Both sides deserved to get something out the game and Tottenham made a magnificent comeback when the match seemed totally out of their grasp. If new manager Harry Redknapp can keep them playing like this and remove the basic defensive errors, it is hard to see Spurs being in the relegation zone for much longer.

The Premiership - Vamos to Ramos, Hello to Harry

And it is finally here, the headline that journalists everywhere have been dying to write in order to appear poetically amusing, "Vamos to Ramos!"

It was perhaps inevitable. As soon as Spurs Manager, Juande Ramos was given the Tottenham Board's full backing, a sacking was imminent. This sequence of events has happened many times before in football and will no doubt happen again. With just 2 points from 8 premiership league games and an early exit from European competition looking likely, Tottenham had to do something.

So what did they do?

The Tottenham board sacked Spaniard Juande Ramos and hired Portsmouth Manager, Harry Redknapp! This should be interesting.

Of the current Tottenham squad, Redknapp commented, "They have a decent squad on paper, although it's not a well-balanced squad, it's a squad with good ability, very skillful players, but maybe a bit of a soft centre. We need a little bit more strength and aggression about the team if we're going to survive. You don't pick up two points if you're that good."

First team coaches, Gus Poyet and Marcos Alvarez also leave the club as does sporting director Damien Comolli.

Clive Allen will temporarily fill in as Manager for Tottenham's game today against Bolton. Often when a side has a new manager, the team, conscious that they are now fighting for a place to stay in the squad, play a bit better. Lets hope this is the case today.

UEFA CUP 2008 - Udinese 2 - 0 Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur were not favourites to win away to Italian Club Udinese in their opening UEFA cup game, but would have been grateful for it. A win would have perhaps provided some much needed confidence and strength to climb away from probably the London club's worst season of all time.

Alas, it was not to be as, second in Serie A, Udinese won the game 2-0.

Tottenham started quite brightly with chances in the 15th minute with a saved header from Bent and then a tight angled shot from Lennon in the 20th. It looked as if Spurs may get something... but then the Penalty came two minutes later courtesy of a mad ball control blunder by Goalkeeper Gomez. It has to be said, Gomez looked pretty dodgy most of the Evening.

Udinese Striker, Di Natale, scored from the spot and as so often is the case this season, when Spurs go behind, you just can't see them coming back.

To follow the familiar pattern of recent games, midfielder O'Hara got himself sent off the pitch for two clumsy tackles in short succession. Down to ten men, yet again, the task now was hopeless.

Giovani dos Santos came on as a Tottenham substitute in the 64th minute and provided some attacking flair, but by this time Udinese were well in control and scored a second goal in the 86th.

It was another, all round miserable day for Tottenham. Not only losing, but having a man sent off also. Spanish Manager, Juande Ramos, must be really feeling the pressure at the moment, and this result will not ease matters. Tottenham next play in the Premiership at Home to Bolton on the 25th October. Another defeat would be disastrous. But with Defoe, Keane and Berbatov sold, who is going to get the goals?

The Premiership: Ramos has the full confidence of the Board.. oh dear

Ever since Juande Ramos took charge of Tottenham Hotspurs, I'm sure that all Newspaper reporters have been ready to run the imaginatively titled story, "Vamos to Ramos!". They are all ready with it, ready to go, it must be like having an itchy trigger-finger.

Now that Juande Ramos has been given the vote of confidence by the Tottenham board, the Reporters' trigger-fingers must be itching like crazy. The Vote of Confidence often means the complete reverse and is usually a polite prerequisite to total doom.

The Chairman, Daniel Levy has said he intends to give Ramos every chance to make a success of his spell in north London. He failed to mention however, if this had anything to do with Football.

Football Premiership - Spurs defeated... yet again !

I am really running out of titles to call these Tottenham Hotspurs Blogs. Tottenham Lose, Spurs defeated, The Woe Continues, Tottenham still without a win.. etc etc

After the opening 7 games without a win, I was wondering how it could possibly get any worse. And now I know.

It was playing Stoke City, the next team up in the table, getting two players sent off and losing 2-1. Now with Spurs, no awful result surprises me.

This was the chance to turn things around. Newly promoted Stoke City are hardly World beaters. All was going well until the 17th minute. Tottenham conceded a Penalty, Defender Bale was sent off and Stoke's Higginbotham converted the chance.

1-0. Now Spurs were really up against it.

Arguably offside, a glimmer of hope was offered by Bent who managed to equalize and for a while Tottenham had most of the play despite being a man short. But... to continue the abysmal theme of the season, City scored again in the Second Half and Tottenham Hotspurs never came back. Stoke could have arguably scored another, missing a second Penalty awarded.

Dawson was the second Spurs player given the red card deep into injury time to round off yet another thoroughly miserable afternoon.

City fans joyfully chanted, "You're getting sacked in the Morning!". I don't think this was aimed at their own Manager somehow. Juande Ramos must go now surely. Eight games, two points and NO wins.

The Premiership: Tottenham lose yet again !

Unbelievably, Tottenham have lost in the Premiership yet again! This is now the worst start to a season for over 100 years. There is only one word to convey this and that word is, "Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

Visiting Hull City beat Spurs 1-0 at White Hart Lane creating a North London Double after beating Arsenal the previous week.

Brazilian, Geovani, scored a wonder goal from 35 yards for Hull in just the 9th minute of play and a lacklustre Spurs never fought back. Woodgate should have equalised just before Half Time, but his shot bounced off a Hull defender and hit the post.

Tottenham remain bottom of the League and are now 4 points into the Relegation zone. The misery continues. When will Tottenham win a Premiership game? Answers on a postcard.

The Premiership: When will Tottenham win?

When will Tottenham Hotspurs win their first game in the Football Premiership? Lord, if I know. This has officially been the worst start to a season for 34 years and that is certainly longer than I can remember.

Spurs scraped an unconvincing win in Europe this week, courtesy of an own goal against Wisla Krakow. They go through to the next round 3-2 on aggregate, but they were lucky and it was hardly a performance to spark any great confidence.

What is going on?

Spurs are the only Premiership Football team yet to win a game. Their seventh match is at home against Hull City. Hull were promoted last season and have had a great start to this year's campaign. They lie 6th in the table just 3 points off the League leaders, Chelsea.

Hull so far have performed greater than anyone had expected, but surely they are going to suffer a drop in form sooner or later. Hopefully it will be this Sunday, Tottenham will finally make Home Advantage count and seriously start to make inroads to getting out the Relegation zone!

It is still early days in the season, but with just 2 points from 6 games played, it's the potential start to something that doesn't end at all well.

The Primiership: Tottenham stay Bottom

As the title says, Tottenham stay bottom.

It's hard to know what to say. Tottenham Hotspurs' abysmal season continues. Now the only team not to win a game in the Football Premiership this season, they suffered another defeat at Portsmouth, losing 2-0.

Portsmouth had conceded 10 goals in their last two games, but were still strong enough to see off their opponents. Goals from Ex-Spurs Striker, Defoe and the robot-dance man, Crouch were enough to seal their victory.

Tottenham have just 2 points in 6 games and are 2 points adrift of the closest team, Newcastle. Manager Juande Ramos is clearly not doing very well. Just when you think it can't get any worse, suddenly it does.

As a Tottenham fan, I have to admit, I'm now slightly scared. Please call me out from hiding when it's over.

Tottenham Hotspurs Win. Finally !!!

Being a fan of Tottenham Hotspur this season, so far has not been very much fun. But finally, finally, they have managed to win a game.

Last night Spurs beat Newcastle away in the Carling Cup 2-1. The first half was pretty abysmal ending goalless and it looked very much as if the poor form would continue. However, second half goals from the new man, Pavlyuchenko 63’ and O'Hara 67’ was enough to see them into the next round. The Newcastle defence was hideously bad, it has to be said, but a win is a win and the Club will be greatful to take it.

Former England International, Michael Owen managed to pull one back for Newcastle in the 88th minute, but by then it was way too late.

With Russian Pavlyuchenko now breaking his duck, hopefully Tottenham will now begin a resurgence in the League. They next face Portsmouth who have let in 10 goals in their last 2 games. Seems like a good place to start a comeback.

What is Happening to Tottenham Hotspurs ???

At the time of publishing this blog the date is September 23rd 2008. It hasn't been the best start to the season for Tottenham and there is no positive spin you can put on it. Believe me... I've tried !!!

What is happening to Tottenham Hotspurs ???

Spanish Manager, Juande Ramos, former UEFA Cup Winner managing Sevilla was supposed to restore the clubs fortunes. After the first 5 games, Tottenham lay last with just 2 points !!!

16 Aug, 15:00 Middlesbrough 2 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur Premier League
23 Aug, 15:00 Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 2 Sunderland Premier League
31 Aug, 13:30 Chelsea 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur Premier League

I thought the draw at Chelsea was the start of a U-turn in the Premiership, but it just got worse with first, losing at Home to Aston Villa and then drawing at Home to Wigan.

15 Sep, 20:00 Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 2 Aston Villa
21 Sep, 15:00 Tottenham Hotspur 0 - 0 Wigan Athletic

This is just awful and Tottenham seriously need to improve. Last year Spurs conceded many Goals, but this was negated as they also scored a lot as well. So what happens this season? Strikers Robbie Keane, Sold to Loverpool. Berbatov, Sold to Man Utd.

This is very worrying. New signing Modric is injured and it is unclear whether Palychenko will be a success in the Premiership. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a sudden upturn in form. Surely Champion Ramos can do something, can't he?

The next match sees Tottenham away to fellow strugglers Newcastle in the Carling Cup. Newcastle are just one place above them in the League table and I'm just praying they have a stinker. The next League game is against Portsmouth.
