BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2008 - Week 10, John Sergeant out with Dignity intact

Who will ever know exactly what went on behind the scenes this week on Strictly Come Dancing? Not me, that's for sure.

Anyway, its seems like John Sergeant has done the right thing by opting to pull out of the competition. He will retire undefeated with his popularity as high as it can perhaps possibly go and his dignity firmly intact. This week he performed a farewell dance with dance partner, Kristina Rihanoff.

It was Kristina's first foray into the world of Strictly and she did a fantastic job with John.



John Sergeant was a breath of fresh air for Strictly Come Dancing and will be one of the most remembered celebrities that the show has ever had. He did the right thing to retire the show. It had got to a point where News reporters were camped in his front garden each day and he was making headline news just for being in a dance contest. When he pulled out, he even had to call a Press Conference. John was fully aware that the whole situation was getting well out of control and he had to put a stop to it.

Respect to John on this tricky but correct decision.

BBC Strictly Come Dancing - John Sergeant does it again !

John Sergeant's voting fan base in this years competition is huge. No, that is an underestimate, it's far bigger than huge. The word huge seems woefully inadequate. The word huge should probably be reserved to describe a large elephant where as the support for John Sergeant is more akin to a small galaxy.

This week entertaining Mr Sergeant danced the foxtrot,

The choreography professional dance partner, Kristina Rihanoff, is inventing each week to get them through is simply genius. What a team!

They predictably finished bottom of the leaderboard after the initial Judges scores, but did they end up in the bottom two dance off?

Not on your nelly! as Head Judge Len Goodman would probably say.

BBC Strictly Come Dancing - Week 7 - John Sergeant, Captain Invincible?

What can one say about Mr John Sergeant in Strictly Come Dancing?

By dance ability alone, he should have been voted out the competition long ago. But, this competition oddly isn't just about dance ability, it's about entertaining the viewing public. And he does this in great big bucketfuls.

Was John Sergeant's Paso Doble with dance partner, Kristina Rihanoff, the fiercest and most energetic Paso Doble of all time?

Well.... quite clearly not. However, it was immensely watchable. John's unique dance style is an entertaining as they come and if the competition were based on viewers votes alone, he surely would be one of the main contenders to win.

This week, his performance scored 21. This was second from bottom, but yet again the voting public saved him. I wouldn't be surprised if John was top of the leaderboard just counting the home vote.

One suspects John will be in the contest for quite a few weeks to come yet and Strictly Come Dancing is richer for it. A wry grin, a witty one liner, Captain Invincible advances safely to Week 7.
