The opening game of the Football Euro 2008 Championships has seen a defeat for the host nation.
A Sverkos goal in the 70th minute from the 24 year old Substitute was enough to get the Czech Republic off to the best possible start. This was the first ever goal that Sverkos has scored Internationally and he couldn't have picked a better time.
Switzerland tried to hit back, hitting the crossbar in the 80th. The loss of their Captain, Alexander Frei just before half time was a major set-back and now they are really up against it in the competition.
The entertaining opener ended Switzerland 0 - 1 Czech Republic.
